Position Summary: Evaluates and edits manuscripts and prepares them for print under the direction of a Senior Editor or Editorial Director; consults on product development from an education perspective.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Works directly with authors to make changes as needed for clarification, and may rewrite or reorganize materials.
  • Edits and prepares product manuscripts and digital resources for multiple product lines, ensuring educational validity, clarity, purposefulness, best practices, and ease of use.

Sales Support Representative - Direct-to-School

Position Summary:

  • Main responsibilities are to support sales representatives and regional managers with all sales and marketing functions, including customer service, reporting, sampling, event coordination, key accounts, order entry, quote/proposal preparing, sales force lead entry, territory research and specialty sales.

  • Develops and concepts new mathematics-based products in keeping with the latest trends and needs in the classroom.

Position Summary:

The Production Assistant will provide production support for Designers and the Production Director, performing essential tasks in order to keep all production moving on schedule and to the level of quality expected by the organization. Position Summary:
The Inside Sales Consultant will be responsible for selling educational products and materials into the K-12 market.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for sales of educational products, materials and services into K-12 academic market.
  • Accountable for a full life cycle sales role with its own individual quota.
  • Drive sales opportunities within the assigned territories and accounts via cold calls, email correspondence webinars, conference calls, etc.

Inventory Control Manager

Position Summary:

Oversee department responsible for the timely purchase of inventory.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Manage overall inventory levels ensuring we minimize backorders while turning over our inventory at no less than industry standards.
  • Ensure we have an adequate and responsible number of vendors available to support our printing, manufacturing and assembly needs.
  • Ensure adequate quality control is in place for monitoring vendor performance against predetermined specifications.
  • Work closely with warehouse to ensure they are aware of impending deliveries of stock. In addition, ensure stock orders coincide with allocated warehouse space.
  • Monitor pricing available for our type of work and ensure we are purchasing at lowest possible price points consistent with our volume and specifications. Develop strategies to reduce our overall manufacturing costs through such efforts as gang printing, utilizing low cost assembly operations, etc.
  • Ensure effective flow of communication and materials (files, blue lines) between the Editorial department and printers so that our vendors have what they need at the appropriate time.
  • Provide creative and cost-effective packaging options to Editorial department as part of new product design.
  • Constantly and effectively review impending inventory needs and ensure timely placement of orders to minimize backorders and ensure we never miss customer deadlines.
  • Work closely with Controller to ensure inventory is accurately accounted for each month.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Prefer at least 7-10+ years of inventory control experience in a complex, fast growing and evolving business.
  • Must have proven data aggregation skills, with experience pulling information from multiple sources (salesforce.com, company ERP system) and manipulating as needed.
  • Must have strong analytical skills, with proven forecasting and modeling capabilities.
  • Must possess strong data presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex, multi-faceted schedules and priorities to various constituents.
  • Must be extremely well organized with proven ability to prioritize competing demands while keeping all parties informed of status on items most relevant to them.
  • Must be a flexible and collaborative problem solver.
  • Must have experience working within a variety of internal departments and show a clear ability to communicate between them with professional confidence.

Material Handler

Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for the processing of incoming and outgoing orders. Duties include, but are not limited to picking, packing, assembly, receiving, and shipping. Carries out delegated responsibilities for B2B, direct to school and international business channels in accordance with TCM's policies and applicable law. Willingness to work overtime as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pick, pack, and ship orders according to established standards
  • Process external mail and other related parcel items
  • Operate material handling equipment, manifest shipping system and barcode scanners
  • Receive and pickup items for immediate, next day or future delivery
  • Load and unload trucks. Move material utilizing pallet jack or sit down forklift
  • Receive and deliver internal mail throughout the office
  • Process return to stock receipts
  • Assist in the slotting of high frequency inventory materials
  • Responsible for maintaining the warehouse floor. Cleaning, stacking, sorting etc.
  • Process inventory transactions related to the movement of goods
  • Perform cycle counts as needed
  • Replenish product that has been received and assigned to a bin location
  • Prepare boxed or bundled materials for distribution or storage.
  • Assist and advise other production departments on order fulfillment related issues
  • Participate in corrective action teams to effectively manage operational issues
  • Other duties may be assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • GENERAL: Ability to use the following equipment: Personal Computer with Internet, MS Office and Elan systems, 10-Key calculator, tape machine, off line postage meter, pallet jack, shrink-wrap machines and various other office and warehouse equipment.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures. Ability to fill in routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before internal team members and associates of the organization.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral or written form. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent daily use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
  • Frequent walking or standing for an extended period of time on concrete and uneven surfaces.

Project Expediter

Position Summary:

Responsible for the processing of incoming and outgoing orders. Duties include, but are not limited to picking, packing, assembly, and shipping. Carries out delegated responsibilities for B2B, direct to school and international business channels in accordance with TCM’s policies and applicable law. Willingness to work overtime as required.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Process, assemble and disassemble incoming and outgoing kit orders.
  • Maintain quality controls for internal and external customers.
  • Obtain project requirements from business stake holders.
  • Establish process steps and workflows based on project needs.
  • Investigate, document, and resolve issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Validate inventory for upcoming projects and advise of shortages and stock-outs.
  • Participate in time in motion studies and document work flows.
  • Create internal work orders to reserve inventory for special projects.
  • Ad hock reporting as needed.
  • Assess back order status and assemble back ordered sets as required.
  • Replicate CDs and DVDs, print lesson plans, and create ISBN labels.
  • Process return to stock mailing and order shipments.
  • Assist other departments as dictated by management (i.e.: fulfillment, receiving, inventory and facilities).
  • Help forecast staffing requirements for both in-house and outsourced projects.
  • Work with inventory, shipping, and fulfillment departments to arrange pick up and receipt of transfer shipments.
  • Participate as a member of corrective action teams to effectively manage operational issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to navigate the Internet.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office- including Excel, Word, Visio and PowerPoint is preferred.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload based on business need.

Beta/Quality-Assurance Tester and Proofreader

Teacher Created Materials is an educational publishing company specializing in curriculum and content for elementary classrooms. Products include children's readers, activity books, teacher's guides, transparencies, interactive whiteboard files (SMART Notebook and Promethean ActivInspire), audio books, ebooks, PDFs and other electronic documents, podcasts, and webinars.

We are looking for tech-savvy, freelance, software beta testers and quality assurance testers to work on upcoming digital and print products. Previous or current educational experience is preferred. Candidates should have a strong sense of grammar and excellent written communication skills.

Job Summary:

Successful candidates will step-check, test, proofread, and bug report on a variety of digital products, including interactive whiteboard activities, enhanced ebooks, and other digital products targeted at the educational market (primarily K-8). The person filling this position will work from home but occasionally come in-house to the company offices (in Huntington Beach) for training and certain kinds of quality-assurance and proofreading work.

Duties and Tasks:

  • Test/evaluate ebook software functionality and design
  • Proofread text in ebooks and listen to recorded audio for clarity and accuracy
  • Proofread digital and printed text
  • Step-check interactive whiteboard activities
  • Evaluate the ease-of-use of digital product

Requirements:

  • Pass a proofreading test and a software quality assurance test
