$30,000 Donation to Tuscaloosa Schools from Teacher Created Materials

TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA – July 8, 2011 The educational publisher, Teacher Created Materials (TCM) of Huntington Beach, CA, is donating $30,000 of professional teaching materials to the Tuscaloosa City Schools classrooms destroyed by the April 27 tornado. Acting Superintendent Dorothy Richardson of the Tuscaloosa City Schools, Dr. Frank Costanzo, of the Tuscaloosa County Schools, and the principals of University Place Elementary/Middle Schools (Dr. Deron Cameron and Tom Danner), Alberta Elementary (Brenda Parker) and Holt Elementary (Debbie Crawford), will meet with representatives Larry Zimmerman and Scott Dudley of TCM to receive the donation Wednesday, July 13 at 1:00 in the Regions Room at the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education.

TCM began its relationship with the Tuscaloosa City Schools in 2005 as part of the Teaching American History Program (TAHP), the first of 3 such federal grants awarded to the City Schools. TCM’s Academic Officer Larry Zimmerman and Sales Representative Scott Dudley, have worked with Grant Coordinator ZuZu Freyer to supply traveling history trunks and teachers’ classrooms with colorful, quality resources that make history come alive for students. TAHP is a partnership of Tuscaloosa City, Tuscaloosa County, and Hale County Schools, the Westervelt-Warner Museum of American Art, American Village, and The University of Alabama.

When TCM President Corrine Burton heard that several schools in Tuscaloosa had been destroyed or severely damaged, she immediately offered these outstanding teaching materials. They include a variety of early childhood, elementary, and middle school kits for reading, science, math, and social studies. Examples can be seen at www.teachercreatedmaterials.com. TCM also donated items to Holt Elementary in the Tuscaloosa County School system.

TCM has received multiple awards in the educational publishing field for their quality teaching materials. Last month they won five of the highly coveted Distinguished Achievement Award from The Association of Educational Publishers.
