These content-rich, age-appropriate readers complement social studies and language arts curricula. The lessons are based on the National Council for the Social Studies standards as well as language arts standards. This program serves as a crucial bridge between reading and writing and content-area material. Books in this kit are written at two reading levels for differentiated instruction.

Components of Primary Source Readers

• Books: One of the unique qualities of this program is that the books are organized into leveled pairs. Each pair of books has one book that is written at a specific grade level, such as second grade, and one book is written at another grade level, such as first grade. Having the books at various reading levels within the same kit provides flexibility in using the program with students. Each Teacher's Guide includes a chart for specific information on the reading level of the books in the kit.
• Primary Sources: Each book in Primary Source Readers is designed around primary sources that tell about the subject.
• Teacher's Guide: The Teacher's Guide for each Primary Source Readers kit includes the following information:
  • Introduction to Primary Source Readers
  • Units that correspond with each set of paired readers; each unit includes a comprehensive 10-page lesson plan for each book.
  • Appendices including document-based assessments, answer key, culminating activity, how to use the enhanced ebooks, references cited, and contents of the CDs.
• Digital Resources:
  • Audio CD contains professional readings for each of the 16 books to serve as a model of fluent reading.
  • Teacher Resources CD includes JPGs of all primary sources, Microsoft Word® documents of the body text for each book, student reproducible pages, multiple choice quizzes (one for each book), and document-based assessments (one for each book).
