A financial donation is given to schools devastated by April's tornados in Tuscaloosa County.

Tuscaloosa, AL (WVTM) --- A California company, "Teacher Created Materials", is making a thirty thousand dollar donation to schools in Tuscaloosa City and the County that have teachers who lost their supplies in the storms.

Some of the teachers who lost supplies in the April tornados had been teaching for dozens of years, losing a storehouse of knowledge, billboards, and textbooks. Some of that will be replaced by this group, "Teacher Created Materials."

When classes start back next month at these schools devastated by the April storms, teachers will find a gift in their classrooms, donated materials and supplies.

University Place Elementary Principal, Deron Cameron said, "’Teacher created materials' will go a long way in helping us reach our goal of every student succeeding every day."

"Teacher Created Materials" is a family-owned company out of California and it considers the schools in Tuscaloosa city and the county, extended family.

Teacher Created Materials, Larry Zimmerman said, "And we saw what happened on the news... our hearts went out and we heard a representative of the school ask if there was anything we could do to help, we were more than glad to step forward and do our part."

While the structures are still standing at Holt and University Place, here at Alberta, the April 27th tornado just demolished it. Despite that destruction, these many months later, school officials and principals are grateful for this donation."

The donation includes teacher materials in every academic area, social studies, math, reading and books for students to use as well.

And teachers aren't the only ones getting gifts. Donations have come in from around the country to help students and their families, who may have lost their own supplies, get off to a great start when school begins.

Cameron said, "I think it just shows the leadership throughout our country, coming through for us and in turn that's great for our students to see that and recognize that."

...Recognizing a light... at the end of a dark tunnel for some...

The thirty-thousand dollar donation will be split between Holt Elementary, a county school... and three Tuscaloosa city schools, Alberta elementary, University Place Elementary and University Place Middle School.
