Robert Smalls was an enslaved man from South Carolina who displayed courage by escaping. He then opened a school for Black children, owned a newspaper, started a railway, and eventually got elected to the United States Congress. These teacher-approved 8.5 x 11-inch cards detail Smalls’s story while helping students focus on vocabulary, reading comprehension, speaking and listening, writing, content knowledge, SEL, and taking action. With many student and teacher resources, this product will empower third grade students by inviting them to explore their own untold stories.
