Lilia E. Sarmiento, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at California State University, Dominguez Hills, where she teaches courses in reading and writing methodology for English and Spanish instruction. Her work during the past 30 years as a preschool and elementary teacher, a staff-development coordinator, and a consultant has offered her the opportunity to work with linguistically and culturally diverse student populations. The focus of her current work includes teacher preparation, bilingual and dual immersion, early literacy, English language development, and the importance of personal writing for teachers. She is an international speaker and presenter, but also maintains close professional relationships with local school districts.
