    About the Author

    Sue Strom

Sue Strom is an educator with 37 years of experience specializing in math and reading intervention. Throughout her career, she has focused on fostering both academic and social growth by building strong relationships and meeting students where they are. Passionate about collaboration, Sue has partnered with community organizations to develop After School Club and summer programs that combine tutoring, enrichment, and meaningful connection—programs that have helped many students thrive well beyond high school. She holds a coaching certificate from the National Urban Alliance, is Orton-Gillingham trained, and has taught math and equity courses at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. Sue co-developed an intervention model with Dr. Lucy Payne that blends in-school support with after-school programming to create wraparound learning environments where every student succeeds. Their Gear Model is a whole-child, integrated framework that enables schools, families, community partners, and volunteers to work seamlessly together—because if one “gear” stops, positive outcomes stop, too.
